I am excited to announce my intent to run for Ogden City Council to represent Municipal Ward 1. I have lived in Ogden for 12 years; I am married and have two children, Olivia (15) and Luca (9). I completed my Masters Degree in English at Weber State University and currently, I am pursuing my Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy at the University of Utah. I am deeply committed to ensuring all children have equitable access to quality educational opportunities, so they are able to pursue the career and life of their dreams. The community we live in is unique because there is the possibility for each individual to participate to improve it by working together. We are not such a big city that the individual people get lost, but we are a vibrant city filled with diverse citizens who care enough to invest their time and money to build on the city’s historical foundation toward the best life experiences for us all.

I hope you will join me in this effort.  I appreciate your support.

Issues

Community

I want all families and residents to enjoy a safe, stable, and thriving community to live in. Municipal Ward 1 has many more assets than people realize. The historic buildings along with proximity to downtown create opportunities more recently developed communities do not have. We have affordable housing options for people to call home. All residents should feel their voice will be heard when issues important to them are put in front of the city council. Creating a sense of community involves more than the words; it involves open communication, respect for alternate views, and a welcoming space for all.

equality

All residents have the right to live their lives without fear. Fears can stem from national debate, regional news, or local policies and practices. At the local level, we should be doing all we can to ensure our residents are treated respectfully and supported in their efforts to create a better life for themselves and their families. The recent resolution passed by Ogden City and the Council are steps in the right direction.

accessibility

There are some residents in our city who do not have access to the same information, transportation, and/or equitable standards of living as I do. I will fight to be sure these residents’ voices and issues are heard at the local level. I will work to help them gain access to basic needs such as stable housing, food, and safety.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
